This non-contact HOT ROD formula was introduced to TRACKSTAR with drivers from the Midland Hot Rod Club.
They were saloon cars restricted to 1650cc engines but modification within that limit was allowed. Drivers came from far and wide and local drivers to each stadium were soon chasing top honours.
Slick racing tyres were a must on the super quick New Brighton tarmac and close racing was assured although when things went wrong at the speeds they achieved it was usually terminal for the car, as quite a few drivers can verify. Various other tyres were used for the shale circuits and choice depended on the weather.
A full series of championships was run for the HOT RODS including British, National Points, Midland, Northern, East Anglian, individual Track Championships.
The four top points scorers after each months gradings were issued with ‘Star’ status and had to start every race behind the ‘Reds’.
